Laser Pointers Hack Siri, Alexa & Google From afar

A new paper has come out showing how a laser pointer from 800 feet away can turn on your voice activated device and do anything they want with your device. If you have a smart door lock connected to Alexa, they can unlock your door and walk right in. If you have an iPhone, then Siri is already a vulnerability allowing people to access your private information even when your phone is locked.

How is it possible to hack my devices with a laser pointer? Sparing you the mundane details, microphones are lacking or have non existent security measures to stop light being accepted as sound, which lets hackers use that to their advantage.

The best way to mitigate against this would be to disable voice activation on your iPhone and Android and move your voice activated Alexa and Google Mini away from windows.

Your iPhone & iPad Can Be Easily hacked

Your iPhone has Siri, which unknowingly to you makes your phone constantly vulnerable from various attacks, even when your phone is locked and you sit it down. Anyone can go through your previous messages, make calls, send texts, view your work schedule, add new events to your schedule, FaceTime anyone, etc.

It’s also important to note disabling Siri does not always fix this issue as an older version of Siri is activated, which anyone can use from the lock screen. When we contacted Apple about the disabled Siri issue, they made it clear they see this as a feature.

They also pointed out a well hidden setting to disable the pre-siri voice commands. Here is a video showing some of those vulnerabilities, which Apple considers a feature, which still works in the latest version of iPhone and iPad.

Are WordPress Nulled Themes Safe & Legal To Use?

Posted on November 6, 2019November 6, 2019Categories Uncategorized

WordPress nulled themes are very popular as they usually contain free WordPress themes that go for $30 to $50 on themeforest. Nulled in this context is a word used in the WordPress community to represent paid themes that are free.

The legality of using these WordPress themes is indeed interesting, because using these themes without paying is not piracy if it is GPL 2. We can’t speak to other licenses, but under the GPL, users buy open source code and then have the right to give it away for free.

This novel concept, which is at the core of the GPL makes nulled WordPress themes legal to share and distribute free of charge provided it is completely under the GPL 2.

The next part of this question we must consider is if these themes are safe to use for your WordPress site. Unfortunately, the majority of nulled WordPress themes have malware.

This doesn’t mean the original WordPress theme has malware, nulled themes are generally distributed by malware developers. Unless you know where the malware developers put all the malware in nulled WordPress Themes and how to remove it, then don’t use it.

So, all in all the concept of nulled WordPress themes are in the very spirit of the GPL, but it’s been corrupted by malware developers. Until a safe repo comes online that actively removes malware, instead of adding it, we don’t recommend nulled themes.

Supreme Court Agrees Businesses can’t have bad SEO

Posted on October 15, 2019October 15, 2019Categories Uncategorized

We are going to give you a quick overview on how your website or app may be out of compliance with the law and what the Supreme Court did. An individual who is blind was unable to order from dominoes pizzas website or app, so he sued over a violation of the ADA. An appellate court ruled in his favor, but also rules that this applies to all places of public accommodations. The Supreme Court refuses to hear Dominoes argument letting the appellate ruling stand.

Whether you know it or not, being compliant helps improve your site visibility on google and other search engines. If you aren’t a public accommodation, this is still worth the money as it helps you out.

What is a public accommodation?

According to the law which we quote below a public accommodation is a physical business that has a site or app. If you don’t believe you fit the current parameters, please keep in mind that we expect more legal guidance in this area from the government. Here is the quote from the ADA frequently asked question page.

“A public accommodation is a private entity that owns, operates, leases, or leases to, a place of public accommodation. Places of public accommodation include a wide range of entities, such as restaurants, hotels, theaters, doctors’ offices, pharmacies, retail stores, museums, libraries, parks, private schools, and day care centers.” Private clubs and religious organizations are currently exempt from the ADA’s requirements for public accommodations.

The exceptions to the law are private clubs and religious organizations. So, if you have a brick and mortar business that also has a website or an app, you should comply with the ADA. Thankfully we are able to help people make their site compliant. It is is outside our $800 a month offer, unless you have a site that requires very little overhaul. Our starting price is $200 for very small sites.
